The Onze Lieve Vrouwe Wal (Wall of Our Dear Lady)

Took a walk around the city ruins and visited the
Onze Lieve Vrouwe Wall. Here's the underground
carpark and the bike "parking lots" are at the
right of the picture.

Here's the visitor info, too bad its in dutch..
I did a little translation and heres the main gist:

The OLV Wall is part of the first medieval city
walls, built between 1229 and 1240. Its also
part of a roman fortress, which dates back to
the fourth century. The arrow with the asterisk
points to our current location in the map.

The wall lined with the cannons pointing toward the
other side of the river

This picture reminds me of tower defence, you can see
the two towers called Helpoort at the extreme left.

Battlements and one of the two towers on the OLV,
you can see the slits in the battlements for defenders
to take potshots at the attackers whist staying safe.

Here are the two towers that guarded the entrance
into the city during the medieval times. They're called
Helpoort, which stands for "Hell's Gate".

A closeup of the gate shows u how thick the walls are,
they're enough to fit 2-3 cars thru that walkway

The inner courtyard and walls of the Helpoort

This is the southern section of the wall

A lone cannon stands guard atop the fortifications,
pointing eastwards towards an unseen enemy

The view from the southern part of the wall, you
can see the wall and the cannons from here

Flocks of birds chilling out at the fountain
(guess i didnt visit at the right time when its
operational... shall try to snap a nice shot the
next time)

This is how high the walls are built... try to visualise
standing on the top and looking down at the cars below

This staircase leads us to the highest vantage point
overlooking the entire "battleground"

This bridge which spans the Meuse River is called
"De Hoge Hrug" - The High Bridge. It even has a
lift for cyclists/wheelchair-bound pedestrians.
Another feature is that this bridge is for pedestrians
and cyclists only, kinda like an overhead bridge but
much cooler haha
